Road travel has become quite unsafe nowadays in Tamil Nadu. In four separate major accidents, at least 17 persons have been killed during the past seven days in the state.
In two accidents near Perambalur, seven persons were killed. In another accident near Pudukottai, four persons were killed on the spot.
In the most recent accident near Sirkazhi, a family of five, who were on a pilgrimage to Vailankanni in a car, were hit by a tourist bus and were killed on the spot. The dead include a senior official of Reliance industries, Secunderabad and an AGM of TNPL, Chennai.
Over speeding of vehicles, neglecting traffic rules and road safety, improper roads, lack of sign boards, arrogant flouting of norms by lorry drivers, lack of reflectors, stationed trucks are all common reasons for accidents.
